Ida Szigethy

This year’s stamp of the serie ‘Modern Art in Austria’ has been created by the painter Ida Szigethy.
She comes from an artistic family, her father was a writer and her mother a pianist. She got her first impressions of ‘Fine Arts’ in the Art Club Vienna, where she became a regular visitor already in her highschooldays. Her friends were the then still unknown writers Konrad Bayer , H.C. Artmann, Gerhard Rühm and Oswald Wiener. She also acted with Konrad Bayer in the experimental film ‘Mosaik im Vertrauen’ by Peter Kubelka and worked on many movies with Ferry Radax. At this time she started to paint. Since 1970 she presented her work in exhibitions in Austria and abroad.
Travelling was always very important, in reality or in her phantasy. In her paintings reality, memories and dreams melt into a new and very personal style. The painting of the stamp ‘Turf Turkey’ is in all the details a trip between Istanbul and the Viennese Prater. The exciting atmosphere of horseraces have been an inspiration for this and many other pictures.
